Sarah & Aaron were in love with their coveted Beaverdale location in Des Moines but wanted to modernize and expand their home’s footprint. They turned to Zenith to remodel their entire home and add on square footage to the first and second floors. The first floor addition made room for a larger kitchen and additional mudroom that also doubles as a pantry. They moved the primary bedroom to the main level, enlarging the space and including a walk-in-closet and spacious primary bathroom. The dining room and entryway space also got the benefit of extra square footage.
For the design of the home, Sarah & Aaron wanted to stay classic but they also opted to include some organic touches. They chose a matte terracotta tile laid in a herringbone pattern for the mudroom. The kitchen features Yorktown Cabinetry in a cream tone with solid wood doors that have a recessed center panel. Matte black hardware, quartz countertops and a clay tile backsplash combine for an upgraded traditional look. The custom vent hood with a smooth drywall finish softens stark lines created by the cabinetry and pairs nicely with the vintage range they already had. Pendant lighting from Pottery Barn hangs over the island to offer additional light.
The upper level was renovated to include a hangout area with a TV on a motorized mount built right into the staircase. This wow feature not only made good use of the space but can also easily be tucked away when not in use.
The entire home got upgraded with engineered hardwood that will last and a fresh coat of paint in Benjamin Moore’s “Cloud White” for the walls and “Revere Pewter” for the trim and doors. Other fun additions included a powder path with Serena & Lily’s “Palmetto” wallpaper, a dedicated office space, a fireplace makeover, upgraded windows and a new matte black garage door.
